Chlamydia
11-22-08

Chlamydia is a sexually transmitted infection STI (primarily through vaginal or anal contact )  cured by antibiotics. Chlamydia infection is very common. However, many people do not know that they have chlamydia, because although they are infected, they may not have any symptoms,  but some women  may have a vaginal discharge, low abdominal pain, or irregular menstrual bleeding. In men, symptoms of chlamydia may include: discharge from the penis, burning with urination, and swollen and/or painful testicles.

Untreated chlamydia is the most common cause of infection spreading to the reproductive organs in women (pelvic inflammatory disease PID). PID can cause scarring of the fallopian tubes, which can block the tubes and prevent fertilization from taking place. In men, untreated chlamydia can affect the testicles, leading to swelling and pain. Related complications can lead to infertility.
